The Brothers Elric

Japanese Word of the Day:
English: “Brothers”
Japanese: “Douhou” どうほう

               This is a story of brothers torn apart and a quest to bring them back together. The fact that both brothers are fictitious is irrelevant. Fans of the Fullmetal Alchemist (henceforth FMA) anime will appreciate this whereas the rest of you will probably find it silly.

               The story begins when my friends and I went into Seminar House 1 to wait for Michael to get something from his room. While waiting in the lobby we noticed a ceramic figure of Edward Elric sitting alone on the Oka-san’s desk. As big FMA fans, Ellen and I both lamented the sad figure alone without his beloved brother. That was when I formed an idea; to make an Alphonse to go with Ed
.
               Luckily, I always carry a sketchbook with me and the day prior had gotten a set of crayons at a 100yen store. In the computer lab I set to work with reference pictures and created the younger brother on my thick sketchbook paper. Inking and coloring later I cut out the figure and folded the bottom such that he could stand. The time had come to reunite the brothers!

               Except that we kept forgetting to for like 2 days. But eventually we found ourselves back in Seminar House 1 to help Michael move into Seminar House 4. I got out little Alphonse and propped him up next to Edward. The Oka-san (mother) of the house came over seeing what we were doing and told us that a student had made her the ceramic Edward years ago. With Ellen’s help with Japanese we managed to explain to her that Alphonse was his little brother and that we wanted to reunite him. She loved it. Oka-san was very complimentary and told me to come visit them every day and say hello.

Brothers reunited!

Until the next adventure;
Ja ne!
